I am sorry to say that I will no longer be able to provide classes during the day for State Hearing and Vision Certifications starting September 1, 2022. All classes currently scheduled will happen as planned up to August 31, 2022.  Classes scheduled after that date will be cancelled and I will be able to offer classes  via ZOOM, split over 2-3 evenings or Saturday dates in a limited capacity. Contact me to set up your dates…(no minimum number of participants is required).

The Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) is planning changes that are happening soon. The changes include revoking all Independent State Trainers Certifications (like mine) for both Hearing and Vision, although they are still current and valid.

AZDHS intends to provide all classes for both hearing and vision screener State certifications free of charge for all participants via web-based classes that will not have an actual human instructor.

AZDHS is also planning to put out a bid for a contract so trainers, like myself, can bid for a contract to manage the hearing and vision portion of the sensory program.  From what I understand, this will include training of trainers and ensuring some in-person classes are available for participants, also at no cost.

Only one contract will be awarded to the bidders. Although the contracted instructor will earn pay per participant directly from AZDHS, no fee amount has been disclosed. All other trainers who are not awarded the contract will be able to be “re-trained” as independent trainers, and work as subcontractors under the awarded contractor. I feel that subcontractors will get what amounts to the cookie crumbs left behind.

I will no longer be able to earn an income that will support my family since AZDHS will be taking all classes over via the contract or web based. There is no definite date for the changes or any guarantee of income for the contracted vendor or subcontractors, so I must do what is right for me and secure a position that provides income to support my family.

I have accepted a job position that begins September 1, 2022. This job is a full time day time position so classes will be only available over evening or Saturday dates.

Please contact AZDHS directly with any questions at

Best to you!
